For quite some time one of the houses has had a statue of owls in their front yard. Mother Dearest and I both noticed this statue and speculated as to whether it was yard art or the owner was trying to throw it out. It was near the edge of the yard by some trees, but not exactly at the curb. We have both watched it with quite a bit of interest, and this weekend noticed that it had been moved closer to the street near some piled up branches. This is a clear sign that it is being discarded, so I stopped on the way home on Sunday and picked it up.

The one on the right reminds me of Simon.

It has the remnants of a piece of fiberboard bolted on the top and seems to be made of some kind of decorative concrete, it looks almost like plaster but isn’t soft enough to be made of that. The owl on the right has what appears to be gnaw marks on its head and both ear-horns are nibbled off, possibly by squirrels. The size and pattern is similar to that of a squirrel.

I’m not sure what this was originally used for, but I’m thinking it’ll make a nice end table base or some other useful bit.
